GREETINGS TVTD Community!

The Heart & Hands of Christ
TVTD Team 2023!

The next Team Meeting is this Saturday, February 4th, at 9:00 am held at Payette United Methodist Church. We hope to see you there if you have made a commitment to serve as a Team Member for the 2023 #12 Treasure Valley Tres Dias Weekends in April.

We know that prayerful consideration on your part brought you to accepting the position offered to you by your Rector. Each Team Member is important to the Weekend's success.

"If one part of the body suffers, every part suffers with it; If one part is honored, every part rejoices with it" - 1 Corinthians 12-26

A Tres Dias weekend is a wonderful example of the Body of Christ working toward a common purpose - to glorify God! The weekend is the most effective instrument of His grace when each task is performed under the leadership of the Rector and with the heart and hands of Christ.

Although a team member receives ministry and blessings during this time of service, the weekend and its activities are centered on the candidates. While each team member has a unique role to fulfill, there are some tasks that are shared. These shared tasked can be divided into three categories:
  • Team Building - preparing for the weekend
  • Participating in the weekend
  • Celebrating the weekend

We are praying for all of you that have committed to serve and ask our whole community to cover our team, rectors, weekends with continued prayer as we prepare.

RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE TALKS

Picture
Did you ever realize that the Tres Dias Weekend talks, while many, are really just one BIG talk? Here is an explanation about their relationship to each other and the beautiful path they take throughout the weekend:

Clergy Talks
The first clergy talk, Grace, defines the Christian ideal to be the Life in Grace. It further defines Life in Grace to be a personal relationship with God.

The remaining clergy talks explore ways of maintaining and strengthening that relationship.
The Rollo on                                                   Says that the relationship is maintained
Holy Spirit                                               By help from God and through our brothers
Sacred Moments of Grace                   Through union with Christ Himself, and through                                                                     the special aids He instituted.
Obstacles to a life in Grace                 Through prayer, denial of self, spiritual direction,
                                                                  etc., to avoid the pitfalls of sin, the alternative to
                                                                  grace.
Life in Grace                                           By making a specific commitment to pious
                                                                   practices, to study, to action, to growth in the
                                                                    relationship.

Another way of looking at the clergy talks is to group them into talks concerning  living grace and talks concerned with overcoming difficulties and barriers to a fuller life in grace.

Lay Talks
Although the Fourth Day talk is usually given by a layman, it is logically grouped with the clergy talks because it deals with overcoming obstacles to perseverance in the Life in Grace. This grouping leave nine talks – three each day – to the “lay talks”
category.

The talks of the first day are PERSONAL and INTROSPECTIVE, growing toward the third day talks, which are COMMUNAL in nature.

The level of personal testimony, witnesses, and evangelism in each talk increases during each day. The first talk of each day is basically intellectual, and the final talk of each day is a personal witness talk.

The first talk of each day appeals to the mind or intellect, the second to the will, and the third to the heart. Stated another way, the first talks deal with understanding; the second talks deal with commitment; and the third talks deal with love. The weekend must come to each candidate at all three levels.

Picture
The relationships depicted in this chart are not absolute, but they indicate the trend of talks on the Tres Dias weekend. “Less witness” does not mean “no personal references”, and “more witness” does not mean “forget the outline”. The Piety talk is the first “heavy witness” talk and, therefore, its witness is very important; however, the Leaders and Total Security talks will normally contain as much (or even more) personal witness than Piety. Study is a “head talk” like Ideal, but it can contain such
things as introductory prayers and personal views on religion, which are normally excluded from Ideal.

The talk outline identifies the points to be made in each talk, and the general approach to the talk; however, each talk must be a personal sharing between the rollista and each candidate, not a recitation. Therefore, the primary job of the rollista is to relate the talk outline to his own life, whether on an intellectual level (first talk) or on an emotional level (third talk), in such a way that the candidate understands what the subject of the talk means to the rollista.

Greetings Treasure Valley Tres Dias Family! Here we are in December, the final month of 2022 and a new year right around the corner. But first we observe what is most people's favorite holiday, Christmas. Christmas is a primarily Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Many will attend church, have family parties and exchange gifts.

Want some ideas of how to share the love of Christ as you gather and prepare for your activities.
Ways to show God's love with actions:
  1. Bake homemade treats for your neighbors and add a little heartfelt note.
  2. Invite a family over for dinner in your home.
  3. Clean out your house and donate toys and clothes to a shelter.
  4. Volunteer in your community or at your church.
  5. Sing Christmas carols in nursing homes or in your neighborhood.
  6. Read the Christmas Story from Luke 2 together with your family
  7. Share about what is important to you and encourage your family to share their thoughts too.
  8. Invite your family to get involved in your church Christmas celebrations.
  9. Offer to say grace at Christmas dinner.
  10. Include Bible verses and nativity images on Christmas cards and gift tags.

These are just a few simple suggestions and ideas. We are sure you have many ways to share God's love with your family and friends. We hope you have a blessed and loving Holiday Season!

In the last few months you have heard talk of fundraisers and donations for Scholarships, but just what is that all about you may ask?

Here is some explanation:
  • Scholarship money has been fundraised and collected and kept in a special fund category in our Tres Dias Budget.
  • This money is overseen by the Treasurer of our Tres Dias Secretariat and is available to help defer costs for Candidate Fees for the upcoming Weekends.
  • The Scholarship money is available in degrees, not full fee amounts, to help those that may struggle to pay the full fee amount for the candidates they are sending to the weekend.
  • Many of our family may sponsor two or more Candidates to a weekend, for instance a husband and wife both, and costs get high when it comes to paying the Candidate fee. These funds have been established for this very reason!

Don't let the cost deter sponsoring a Candidate. Seek help by asking! Bring the need for help to your Weekend Leaders: Angie Meyer and Adele Crownover or any Secretariat member and we will discuss what your needs are and what is available to help get your Candidates to the Weekend!

The Story Behind the Cross

Picture
You've seen it everywhere when you look at Tres Dias articles, websites, even at our Weekends. The Stained Glass Cross of Tres Dias. There is a history and symbolic meaning surrounding it.

Note that the Cross has 15 pieces of stained glass, one for each of the 15 rollos that are contained in a Tres Dias Weekend. The 15 pieces fit together to form this symbol of God's Love just as each rollo fits together in sequence to communicate that love throughout the weekend.

This Cross was made and given as a gift to a Rector on a North Georgia Tres Dias Weekend many years ago and since has been used as a symbol for Tres Dias throughout the many communities and in many different ways. You will see it on websites, coffee mugs, t-shirts, in our beautiful Treasure Valley Tres Dias banner lovingly created by Trina Leininger, and many other places.

Its fun to know that it was created especially for Tres Dias, and has such a significant meaning to our Communities!

CLICK HERE for information outlining the responsibilities and requirements. Please read through it and if you are being lead to this role, contact Bill Shoemaker at Membershipvp@tresdias.org or call/text and leave a message at 678-524-7463.

Team Meeting #1, What's it all about?

COME AND SEE!!
November 5th, Saturday from 9:00 am to noon
we are having our very first Team Meeting for our 2023 #12 Men's & Women's Weekends!!

Coming together for Team Meetings is one of the most important factors to building a successful and God lead weekend.

By attending Team Meetings you are
  • helping to build the weekend,
  • getting to know and support your leaders and team members
  • finding out what will be happening on the weekend, what to expect, and just what your role will be.
Each team member is responsible for helping to build a cohesive team.

Each team member should:
  • Pray without ceasing for the candidates, team, their families and the community;
  • Attend all team meetings;
  • Prepare for and know your team duties;
  • Contribute to the sharing times;
  • Make an effort to meet and know all team members;
  • Participate with love in all liturgies, worship and praise sessions;
  • Become familiar with the outline for each rollo;
  • Enter into the rollo critique process with love and caring for your teammate and for what may affect/impact the candidates;
  • Believe that the rector was chosen and anointed by God to be the human leader for the weekend; and,
  • Believe that God will give special power, grace and wisdom to the rector for the purpose of glorifying God during this time.

Importantly, apply to this team experience, the same mind you had on your original Tres Dias Weekend. Then, (depending upon where you made your Weekend) your rector asked you to:
  • Believe that great things are possible;
  • Have a spirit of openness to God and what He is asking of you;
  • Have a loving concern for one another and total trust in God;
  • Receive things in a Spirit of Idealism;
  • Receive things in a Spirit of Cooperation; and,
  • Receive things in a Spirit of love.

Each of you are an important and intricate part of the weekends and carrying out God's plan for each Candidate that attends. Attending all team meetings that are planned is essential to the success of the Weekends.

Everyone that attends a Tres Dias Weekend can probably think of a few people they would love to share the experience with. That is the heart of Tres Dias Weekends... Sponsoring a Candidate to the next weekend.

Sponsorship is a vital part of the Tres Dias movement, if the community is to grow spiritually and numerically. The only way a person may become a candidate is to be sponsored by someone that has already attended a Tres Dias weekend. Sponsorship is a serious responsibility, the sponsor should seek God’s will and guidance through prayer as to whom to sponsor and be sensitive in approaching a potential candidate.

The Sponsor should recognize that a long-term commitment is being made to the Candidate by sending the Candidate to a Tres Dias weekend. The weekend will not produce a permanent effect without Fourth Day involvement, and therefore, the sponsor should ‘sponsor’ the prospective candidate through all phases of the Tres Dias movement, rather than just the weekend.

The Sponsor should help the new Pescador to live the 4th Day as it is presented on the weekend, by encouraging the new Pescador to be an active and contributing member of a church body, by encouraging him/her to join or form a Reunion Group, attend Secuelas, and become involved in the local Secretariat. In general, the Sponsor should be responsive to the needs of a new Pescador until the Pescador is well established in the 4th Day.

This is the very reason why it is pretty important to already have a good relationship and friendship with the candidate you are sponsoring. Already knowing them, and who is important in their lives is very valuable in not only sponsoring for the weekend, but continuing to encourage and help them really fully be involved as a Pescador.

We have resources for you and ways to gain knowledge about what sponsoring a candidate means. You can find information here. You can also read about what information is available for the candidate.

Do you know that there is training available for Sponsors and EVERYONE who has attended a Tres Dias Weekend should take time to go through it! It may seem a little intimidating to sign up for it, but the process is really very simple and streamlined.

Take it now! You will learn something new about sponsoring,    I guarantee it! :)

Here is the online sponsorship training course. Please log in and take the course.  You can do this on your phone, but we recommend you do it on a computer with a larger screen.

1.    Go to canvas.instructure.com/register
2.    Under “Sign up now; it’s free” select I’m a Student”
3.    Enter join code YXFPWC (case sensitive)
4.    Use your real name and username; click Start Learning
5.    You will be taken to the course home page.
6.    Click “Please read this first”
7.    Read the tutorials and take the short, easy quizzes

This may help you decide if NOW is the right time to sponsor that person you are thinking of. Remember they can only go ONCE in their life as a candidate!

There will be Sponsorship forms and material provided at the Team Meeting for you!

You can also read more about sponsorship on our website.

Dearest Pescadores,
I trust our God is with you all during your fourth day, the day to day of life. He is faithful and “is counting on us”.  As well as our fourth day, we are also in the pre-weekend phase of Tres Dias leading towards the Spring '23 weekends.

In an effort to help offset the costs of attendance for candidates in need, there is a fundraiser underway.  The contact information to help out is contained here in the newsletter. This is a good way to participate in the work of Tres Dias outside the weekend.  Reach out to Maria, who has graciously taken the lead on this. Offer to bring something to sell or offer to man the booth for any length you can.  Baked goods, Handmade items, re-gift items, new or slightly used items, anything you think may raise a few dollars to help with scholarships for candidates.

I plan to provide a cooler containing outdoor items such as camo hat, gloves, fishing lures, etc. if you would like to add to my basket please do.  There are other baskets to add to also.

Please participate in this work as you’re able, and may God bless you.

Tis the season for family reunions: favorite aunts sharing pie recipes, grandpas sharing a glass of iced tea while telling stories about days gone and cousins meeting for the first time over homemade ice cream while dreaming of days to come. Sounds and sights from any family reunion/ family gathering all over the country right about now.

Judy Barnes and I just attended such a family reunion. It was officially called by the name of International Tres Dias Assembly but you wouldn’t have known that for all the above similarities. For all intents and purposes it was a family reunion but for the bit of work accomplished in between the hugs, laughter and sharing of stories.

You see, this was the first time everyone was able to meet in person for 2 years. Like everything else in our surrounding environments from the past 2 years since COVID, the inner workings of Tres Dias have had to be happening remotely and thru the use of technology. The work still got done, deadlines met and tasks accomplished but when you’re in the business of “people and hearts of people” not getting to be together puts a damper on things.

Like all family reunions the stories and sharing were abundant. Stories from communities who were successfully getting back into the swing of having weekends; to stories from communities who will not yet be having weekends for at least another year or more. Stories from communities who cannot get enough people to work or attend as candidates; to stories from communities who have 4 sets of weekends a year and turn away people who want to work or attend for the first time or agree to be put on a 2 year waiting list. Like the hugs and laughter found at a family reunion the stories of each community with their successes and struggles are felt and heard by all.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but anytime I ever attended a family reunion I always left with a new phone number and several invitations to visit soon, coupled with my own invites of please visit soon.

Again, Judy and I experienced this same thing. We both came back with numerous contacts from people in communities who are hurting for people to work their weekends while others are begging for a place with a weekend to work.

Family reunions are a time to reconnect, reminisce and build on the relationships that have been established for years as well as create new relationships. Tres Dias family reunions are no different. We have our monthly family reunions called secuelas and once a year family reunions called weekends.

We at Treasure Valley Tres Dias do a wonderful job of staying connected with our immediate family members. But in all honesty, our family members outside of our immediate vicinity have been left out.

They desire to include us and be included by us. They look to welcome us with open arms and seek the same from us.

How exciting is the family reunion where the long lost family from the boondocks finally attends and the extra blessings that come as a result of it? So I ask you, where do you want to go work? Who could you invite to come work with us?

If you don’t already have a connection with a family member outside of TVTD reach out to Judy Barnes or myself. We have the “goods” and are more than excited and willing to share with you!

Blessings
Sarah Odoms and Judy Barnes

For those who missed the Summerfest last month … we missed YOU! The day was warm (HOT) but we were in the shade and there was a nice breeze. We had a nice attendance, some great food, singing, a piñata for the kids and good conversation!

Your Secretariat has decided that for the near future, we will not be holding Secuelas monthly. We realize everyone is busy and we don’t want the Tres Dias meetings to take you away from participating in your individual churches and families. We are hopeful that in the absence of monthly Secuelas, Reunion Groups may form. For help with guidelines and information on forming a Reunion Group, contact any Secretariat member, or there is information on our website too!

We have also decided to combine the Team Meetings for the 2023 Week-ends with the Secuelas, therefore doing away with doubling up meetings for those who travel a farther distance.

Please consider serving on a team this spring (April 13-16 Men & April 20-23 Women). Be in prayer about who YOU might share the blessing of Tres Dias with by sponsoring them as a candidate.

If you have questions, concerns, or just want to discuss these changes, please feel free to contact anyone serving on your Secretariat. We are always open to suggestions and you are welcome to attend any Secretariat meeting (the 3rd Thursday of each month, 6:30 pm at Payette Nazarene Church).

The next Secuela will be held on Sunday, September 25th at the Ontario Nazarene Church (1131 Alameda Dr, Ontario, OR) from 2-4 pm.

As always, I am looking for a Pescadore to deliver the 4th Day Talk. Feel free to volunteer!

De Colores,
Nancy Kolar

And Speaking of Candidates.....

Picture

Click “Please read this first”
6.    Read the tutorials and take the short, easy quizzes

This may help you decide if NOW is the right time to sponsor those you may be thinking about sponsoring.  Remember they can only go ONCE in their life as a candidate!  Also please let the Secretariat know what you think about the online sponsorship training as we are considering making this sponsorship MANDATORY next year … so we need and value your input.

Blessings to you all! Till we meet again!

President's Corner

Dearest Pescadores,
We have initiated this newsletter in an effort to “bind us together”.  Our sister Jean Hershey has graciously taken this on in the midst of a very busy life.  Such an example of serving our Lord Jesus.  I receive such encouragement from her example has I do with so many of you.

I feel I know many of you well enough to know you too are serving the Lord in so many ways.  This is living the fourth day in faith, hope, and love.  Together with the serving you do, I pray many of you will serve in the spring of 2023 to further the Tres Dias method of discipleship training to strengthen the local church.

With this, I pray that any of you that find it difficult to fit into a local church will reach out to fellow Pescadores and
Bind yourself together.

Again, I thank you for your love for Jesus and each other.

The Time is Now!

Making a decision to Serve on a Weekend as a member of the Team is something you can do right now! Anyone who has attended the weekend as a Candidate can now serve as a Team Member!

Why start this early you may say?
  • You can start saving towards your team fee to make serving more affordable! Put $10 to $15 a month into an envelope and have your Team Fee paid up. Better yet, deposit it with our Secretary, Carrie Broyles and she will track it for you! (fully refundable if circumstance makes it impossible to attend)
  • Your Weekend Leaders will appreciate knowing you are available and willing to serve. This will help them to plan, pray, and prepare!
  • Your commitment now to serve sets the desire and mindset for you. You are making yourself available for God to use you wherever He may lead!
  • You can share with other Pescadores that you are serving. This will encourage and help others get excited about also serving the weekend

There are so many good reasons to make an early commitment to serve! If you are ready for that, here is a link to put the commitment in writing now.

President's Corner: Not Just a Hobby

Dearest Pecadores,

We are - a person who fishes either as a job or as a hobby; according to Siri.

As evidenced by this Tres Dias community, we look seriously at this ministry as a work of God The Holy Spirit.  The Tres Dias method of service and leadership training has changed numerous lives like mine and likely yours.

I am encouraged by this community, the leadership both past and present, and the general sense that with our God, great things are possible.  Serving and working alongside you is a pleasure, and we accomplish far more together than ever possible alone.

Thanks so much for your heart for Tres Dias.
Garry Phelps, TVTD President

Why do we need Reunion Groups?

Picture
Reunion groups are small group of friends who meet regularly to encourage each another to continue their Christian growth by sharing their experiences as men and women of God.

Staying connected to fellow men and women serving God is essential for continued spiritual growth. Experience tells us the joy we encounter on the weekend will eventually fade without periodic maintenance.

The weekend is not meant to pull anyone away from their congregation. In fact, the opposite is true. Tres Dias weekends are meant to better equip Candidates to serve their church community. And after a weekend that likely enhances one’s personal relationship with God it is helpful to maintain connections with others of similar experience.

Secuelas are a great time of fun and fellowship for our whole Treasure Valley Tres Dias Community, but we need Reunion Groups.

Welcome Back Danny!

We are so pleased to have our Spiritual Director of the Secretariat back with us in person! Danny Crego is back and living in the area again after being gone for a year studying in the Willamette Valley.

Danny continued to serve our community in his physical absence by attending meetings via phone & Zoom when possible, and by sending meditations for the Secretariat meetings and Secuelas. However, you can't beat having him serve us in person and we are so glad to welcome him home!
